Human Design for Relationships

I just finished Connie Chung's Memoir and as someone who grew up watching her it was fascinating to hear her origin story and learn more about her legacy.

I was one of the people who had NO idea she was married to Maury Povich. LOL so it was also interesting to listen to how their relationship started and grew over time.

I wanted to use their respective Human Design Charts to give you a taste of what a Partnership Analysis is like.

Before we dive in, I just want to preface that Connie and Maury’s charts may not be 100% accurate because I do not have their specific birth times. Connie’s stays pretty much the same throughout the day, however Maury’s chart changes often- which highlights the importance of having your specific birth time when working with Human Design. However, just for the purpose of giving a sample Partnership Analysis, I have put their birth time as noon and will be sharing my insights based on the charts generated using an approximate birth time.

Let’s look at each of their chart’s individually before we explore their partner analysis.

Connie Chung is a ⅗ Manifesting Generator. This means she learns through trial and error while also having a solution based message to the problems she sees around her.

Being a Manifesting Generator tells us that her energy moves quickly and she often finds ways to skip steps towards her goal of mastering whatever she is working on. Her consistent strengths are Ambition, Direction, Leadership, and having an Intuitive Voice.

She has deep insights of empathy, question asking, mental organization and conceptualization, and ego/willpower concerns in others. One quick note about her wisdom about ego - she had SO MANY examples of battling with egotistical men in her book. Men she interviewed and men she worked with. She really is self sufficient and independent - she doesn’t “need” to rely on anyone else to feel “complete” personally or professionally.

Maury Povich is a ⅓ Sacral Generator. He is literally designed to Investigate and then go through life in a Trial and Error experience - learning from his “mistakes”.

Maury’s strengths include a deep understanding of how to truly “mutate” to break old patterns and introduce new ways of doing things. He is also an avid storyteller. This is all about curiosity and asking the kinds of questions that draws out the stories within another - and also loves to tell a good story. Wonderful strengths to have as a journalist and talk show host.

He has wisdom around empathy, the fears of others, the directions others can go to fully step into their brilliance, ego/willpower insights in others, and the ability to draw inspiration out from others. He has a view of the big picture unfolding around him and is also quite independent - but he definitely feels like something is “missing” when he is on his own.

Now, let’s explore their Connection Chart. A Connection Chart in Human Design is created when you combine the charts of two individuals.  It looks at the unique ways that 2 auras uniquely interact with one another. There are several WILDLY specific insights you get when you combine two people’s Human Design charts.

You get a sneak peek into the “Compromises” in your relationship. Compromise happens in a relationship when one partner has a consistent strength and your partner only has “part” of that strength. The result of a compromise is that there is a natural push and pull pattern that you get pulled into.

The person who has the consistent strength will pull the other person into their energy that they are very used to having and the person with the “part” will feel like they are having to “give in” to the other person. The way through this dynamic is to “agree to disagree” not to require your partner to change who they are but instead to allow for space, allow for curiosity to lead the way when this pattern shows up. Awareness and compassion are also REALLY helpful choices in these dynamics.

Next we have “Dominance” themes that can pop up in relationships. This happens when one person in the partnership has a consistent strength and the other does not have that particular strength. This does not have to be a bad thing - in fact - it can be an opportunity to allow the person with this consistent strength to step up and shine in this particular area. It’s really helpful to know these specifics so you can be on the lookout for ways to celebrate your partner stepping into their brilliance.

“Companionship” is another theme in a partnership analysis. This happens when both partners have the same strength. This is an opportunity to appreciate being on the same page with one another. There is a high likelihood that you will shine this energy out in your own unique way - but there is a comfort and recognition with the other in these regards - you can also choose to lean into these themes when you need a break from any compromises or unhealthy patterns.

Last but not least there is “Electromagnetic” which sounds just like it feels in the body - Magnetic - this explains the “attraction” that happens when you are with your partner. This happens when one person has one part of the consistent strength and the other person has the other part. It’s a whole “you complete me” vibe. LOL You each have your own side of the story and when you show up in healthiest version of your part it just FEELS good. Know there is also the potential of “repelling” as magnets can do. It’s all about awareness.

This is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the possibilities in understanding the dynamics in your partnership - but I wanted to give you some of the basics. You will hear some of the other insights as I dive into Connie Chung and Maury Povich’s relationship dynamics!

When you combine Maury and Connie’s charts this is what it looks like. These connection charts create a whole separate “entity” with its own energetic ways of operating. Understanding these dynamics is WILDLY supportive. It helps to really see and celebrate what you and your partner bring to the relationship as well as how to bring awareness to the “unhealthy” patterns you may be playing out (and why they are happening).

As you can see right off the bat - when Maury and Connie are together there is a LOT more energy than they have individually. This can feel really exciting (or not). LOL. Together they have access to the Splenic Center and the Willpower Center and Maury gets more “heart” when Connie is around.

Maury’s consistent strengths are not affected when Connie is around - in fact he probably feels “Complete” when she is around Connie since she “bridges” the gap between his strengths. I can only imagine the conversations they have when they are together - considering they still have an undefined (not colored in) center at the top of their design where questions can come in and they can ponder the wonders of the world together.

Their combined design is VERY empowering. Since they lived apart for years and each had high regard for the other and the work they each respectively do - I can see how their individual empowered designs can be even better when together (not to mention their secure attachment style…more on those in a later email). They are both Generator Types - it also made sense to me to hear how hard they both worked - the pride they have in their work and the encouragement they each provided one another.

Connie is the “Alpha” in the relationship and it seems as though Maury doesn’t mind. LOL Maury is compromised twice in their combined design - but it seems as though they have figured that pattern out. They have 6 different ways to experience Electromagnetism (or repelling forces) in their relationship - but since they both have 3rd lines in their profile and Maury was married before - it seems as though they have learned from past mistakes and are in this relationship by empowered choice.

They really seem to love one another. As someone who JUST found out about this marriage - it was endearing to hear Connie's version of their story as well as witness this dynamic on this quick clip.

If you would like these types of insights into your relationship (or dynamic with a child, co-worker, parent, or friend), I offer a Partnership Analysis session where I do a very deep dive into all of these dynamics as well as leaving space to hear the lived experiences of playing in these dynamics from each of the partners.

It is often so refreshing to have someone outside of the relationship confirming what and WHY these patterns happen. We take time to come up with specific suggestions to practice (with compassion) while finding a new way of playing with the dynamic.

Use your inner guidance to know if this is right for you.  If it’s a YES, please know I LOVE doing these sessions and each one feels very sacred to me.
